A tragic accident in the Okete community, Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, claimed the lives of nine family members when a truck veered off the road and crashed into their home in the early hours of Thursday.
The incident, which occurred around 5 a.m., left the quiet community in shock. According to sources, the truck suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and collide with the roadside residence where the family was sleeping.
An eyewitness described the scene: “The crash was deafening, waking up everyone in the neighborhood. It’s a tragedy that has shaken the entire community.”
Police Begin Investigation
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the accident. Catherine Anene, the command’s spokesperson, said, “A truck lost control and rammed into a house, resulting in the unfortunate death of nine family members. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.”
